Ion Polarimetry

چکیده

Abstract The degree of polarization the beams must be precisely measured, both to enable development and optimization beams, normalize spin dependent effects observed in experiments. Ion beam polarimetry is particularly challenging since physics processes available for are themselves subject active research. This chapter describes ion as implemented at Relativistic Heavy Collider (RHIC), only high energy polarized proton collider.

Polarimetry in the Visible and Infrared: Application to CMB Polarimetry

Interstellar polarization from aligned dust grains can be measured both in transmission at visible and near-infrared wavelengths and in emission at far-infrared and sub-mm wavelengths. These observations can help predict the behavior of foreground contamination of CMB polarimetry by dust in the Milky Way. Fractional polarization in emission from aligned dust grains will be at the higher range o...

Polarimetry of Binary Stars

Astronomical polarimetry is a powerful technique that can provide physical information sometimes difficult or impossible to obtain by any other type of observation. Almost every class of binary star can benefit from polarimetric observations: pre-main-sequence objects, close or contact binaries, mass-transfer systems, evolved binaries, cataclysmic variables, eclipsing binaries, etc. In these sy...

Polarimetry with NICMOS

NICMOS cameras 1 and 2 (with ∼ 43 and ∼ 76 mas/pixel, respectively) each carry a set of three polarizing elements to provide high sensitivity observations of linearly polarized light. The polarizers are bandpass limited and provide diffraction-limited imaging in camera 1 at 0.8 1.3μm, and in camera 2 at 1.9-2.1μm. The NICMOS design specified the intra-camera primary axis angles of the polarizer...

Electron Beam Polarimetry

Along with its well known charge and mass, the electron also carries an intrinsic angular momentum, or spin. The rules of quantum mechanics allow us to measure only the probability that the electron spin is in one of two allowed spin states. When a beam carries a net excess of electrons in one of these two allowed spin states, the beam is said to be polarized. The beam polarization may be measu...

Revealing AGN by Polarimetry

Polarimetric study in the UV and optical has been one of the keys to reveal the structure and nature of active galactic nuclei (AGN). Combined with the HST’s high spatial resolution, it has directly confirmed the predicted scattering geometry of ∼100 pc scale and accurately located the hidden nuclear position in some nearby active galaxies. Recently, we are using optical spectropolarimetry to r...
